The great thing about the older hardbacks of Tolkien books, apart from the general look and feel, is that have a fold out map. The map in this book is still a lovely crisp white while the pages of the book itself have yellowed somewhat.

This book is clearly later than the uncorrected firsts yet it has the same typographical errors as the true 1st editions - strange! Perhaps University press used an uncorrected first as their master copy.
