The fellowship of the ring. George Allen & Unwin. 1969, fourth impression, second edition. Price is printed in DJ as 25s and the sbn (not isbn!) is listed as 04-823045-6.
The great thing about the older hardbacks of Tolkien books, apart from the general look and feel, is that have a fold out map. The map in this book is still a lovely crisp white while the pages of the book itself have yellowed somewhat.

George Allen & Unwin. 1977, 1st edition, 4th impression, printed by University press, Cambridge. This book is clearly later than the uncorrected firsts yet it has the same typographical errors as the true 1st editions - strange! Perhaps University press used an uncorrected first as their master copy.

George Allen & Unwin. 1977. 1st edtion. No price on DJ. This does not have all the typographical errors associated with the 1st edition but does have some of them. So it appears to be a halfway house between the true 1st edition and the corrected edition.
